Widemarsh Workshop Woodwork Students

Widemarsh woodwork students are undertaking a project in partnership with a local group sending recycled tools to Africa.

The students know their work will go a long way, in fact all the way to Sierra Leone on the west coast of Africa.

The students are making crates, which will be used to send the tools to Sierra Leone.  The wood the crates are made from is recycled from old pallets.

The tools are donated by people who no longer want them.  They are then repaired, cleaned and sharpened as necessary, then wrapped and packed in the crates.

The tools are also sent to Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Ghana and Zimbabwe.

People in Africa are very grateful for them as they are used by carpenters, blacksmiths, builders and tailors to help them improve their own standard of living.

If you have any old tools at home you no longer have any need for, we hope to start a collection point at Holme Lacy College soon.
